Maximus Ursus

Maximus Ursus is the mascot for Beast Coins, a dealer of ancient, world, and US coins. The owner's combined love of ancient Roman coins, bears (including "da Bears" of Chicago), and body-building needed expression and somehow in 2005 that became my challenge. Note the seated griffin on the breastplate, which hearkens back to its role in ancient Greece as guardian of the treasury. While one arm is humbly flexing muscles, the other holds a standard which, pardon me, bears the company name.

Bronze, 12" tall.
